ALOR STAR: Being born without hands does not deter his spirit to contribute to the nation just like others who are not physically challenged.
With sheer willpower to help others, Muhammad Zhariff Afandi, 34, together with his 20 friends from different backgrounds would be walking from 750km from Wang Kelian, Perlis to Malacca to raise donations for newly-registered Malaysia Foodbank Organisation.
The Kuala Lumpur-born Zhariff, who arrived with his friends at Seri Mentaloon here today, said apart from collecting 200-tonne of non-perishable food items, they also aimed at raising awareness on the plight of the homeless and needy people for the project.
He said he was committed to take part in the programme as it was a noble effort and great opportunity for him to do his part in helping people in need.
“Unfortunate events could happen to anyone anywhere in a split of second just like the recent massive flood in Kelantan and that is why such project is significant in order to help relief efforts to be carried out immediately in case of tragedy or disaster taking place.
“We are targeting to collect RM100 per kilometre and up until today, we have manage to collect RM1,300.
“The 750km mission is scheduled to be completed in 35 days where about RM3.5 million is expected to be raised throughout the project,” he said adding that it was his second time participate in the ‘Good Will Walk’ programme.
The group was welcomed by the state Water Supply and Resources Committee chairman Datuk Badrul Hisham Hashim upon their arrival.
