Introduction to Good Will Walk
Introduction to Good Will Walk
Ever since the Aceh Tsunami in 2004 UNITED SIKHS Humanitarian Aid has helped raise thousands of tonnes of food and funds in aid of the victims of many disasters in the last 10 years. In each disaster we had to start from scratch to get the necessary materials and volunteers. It took a lot of time and effort and even a single day is a day too late for the survivors.
So last year we decided to create a simulated disaster via a long distance walk. It was a one week, 300 kilometre walk from Singapore to Melaka. The aim was to ask people to pray for MH 370 and the people were genuinely touched. The walk was tough and painful but we learnt something very important. That a long distance walk has the ability to capture people’s attention.
We were stopped along the way and asked the same questions. Who are you? Why are you walking? How can we help you? We managed to raise funds and discovered some amazing volunteers who put aside their own pain and helped others in need by walking to raise funds and awareness about different issues. That's how the 300km Good Will Walk 2014 - Singapore to Melaka was born.
This 19th April we have 10 core walkers from different races, religions and nationalities walking with us from Perlis and reaching Melaka on the 23rd of May. Thousands of people will join us along the way during the 750km.
We are asking for 1 km from the people. Either walk with us or bring a car boot full of dried food and/or donate a minimum of RM 100 per km. Please join us help us to fund and feed the ones in need.
- Good Will Walk will help us set up a foodbank to serve the victims of disasters, the homeless, the orang asli, the abject poor and anyone in need.
- Good Will Walk 2015 - walking to feed the ones in need.
- Supported by the good people of this beautiful country.
